Raster to Vector, an image can be either be in raster or vector formats. Although these two formats are not commonly known as such, the effects of both are well known everyone. Images in the raster formats are usually file types represented as jpg, png formats and vector formats are always in .ai file type.
In the simplest terms, raster photos are those which break up when zoomed into and vector photos are those that do not break when zoomed into. This is an extremely important image editing service necessary for uses in printing of posters, banners, billboards, and other advertisements requiring a large graphical display.
The above logo is in raster format. A raster when zoomed in breaks up since raster is composed of dots. Thus if we have raster logo and wanted to make a huge banner of the logo, it would not be possible unless the logo is converted from raster to vector format.Below is the same raster image when zoomed in.
As can be seen in Figure2, upon zooming in the photo breaks up into tiny dots. This Image cannot be used for making large posters or banners. Such a poster will be of very poor quality and highly unprofessional.
Vector images are in .ai file type which requires Adobe Illustrator or Windows Explorer to view. Figure 3 shows the raster to vector conversion of the logo in Figure 1 zoomed in. Unlike the raster image in Figure 2, the zoomed vector image in Figure 3 looks clear without any visible breaks in picture quality.
